Early in the morning transfer from Tikal National Park to the archaeological site and forest community of Uaxactun for a full morning tour. Uaxactun is an archaeological site 23 kilometers north of the Tikal National Park.  Several architectural complexes may be appreciated as well as a private collection of Maya ceramics turned into the town’s museum.  Prominent Mayan scholar Sylvannus G. Morley studied the site during the 1930’s, who gave it its current name, which means Stone 8 after a date found on one of the site’s stelae.  However, Uaxactun’s ancient Maya name is known to epigraphers: Si’aan K’aan, which means “Born in Heaven”.  Visit two archaeological complexes at the site and the Maya art collection with a professional guide. Uaxactun boasts the most ancient astronomical observatory in the Maya World. Lunch included. Transfer back to Tikal National Park.

What’s included? There are 2 different options,the first is to visit Uaxactun from Tikal with an English speaking professional guide. The second option is to visit the site with our community partners, who do not speak English. They will guide you through the site and you may practise your Spanish. Transportation and lunch are included on both options.

Early in the morning transfer from Tikal National Park to Yaxha for a full day tour. Lunch is included. After lunch, our driver will take you back to Tikal National Park. Yaxha, which means “Green Water” in the Maya language, is one of the largest Maya cities discovered so far in the lowland jungles of the Petén. Yaxha lagoon is one of the areas bestowed with some of the richest biodiversity around Guatemala. The views over the jungle’s canopy from the top of structure 216 are truly impressive.

Early in the morning transfer from Tikal National Park to Ceibal for a full day tour. Lunch is included. After lunch our driver will take you back to Tikal National Park or the Island City of Flores.  Ceibal is partially cleared and restored and beautifully landscaped into a mixture of open plazas and untamed jungle.  Many of the largest temples still lie buried but what the eyes can see are unique structures such as round pyramid along with some of the stelae that depict odd personages whose non-Mayan features have puzzled scholars for years.

     There are 27 different species of crocodiles in the world but the most sought for his beautiful pelt is the Crocodilus moreletti that is endemic to this region.  They nest between June and September and are highly territorial.  They are one of the most endangered species in the Maya Biosphere Reserve and its being hunted down and sold to make belts, shoes or purses has been banned, as Guatemala has signed the International Convention on Trade in Endangered Species...  Following you will find a menu of exciting horseback riding Crocodile Adventures and a list of the archaeological sites visited on each...


 TOPOXTÉ, YAXHÁ AND NAKUM

     The tour begins at 8:00 a.m. with the shuttle from the central area of Santa Elena, 72 km. away from Yaxhá or Melchor de Mencos border 39 kms. away from Yaxhá. Approximately a 1:30 hour drive.

     After room assignment, boat ride to the Island of Topoxté, visit the archeological site. (2 hours). Back to “El Sombrero” Ecolodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit to the archeological site of Yaxhá, 3 km. away from the Ecolodge.

     The following day, after breakfast, take a horse ride to the Nakum archeological site, going across “La Justa Lowland”. (Duration: 4 and a half hours approximately.) Lunch, visit the ruins of Nakum.

     At night, after dinner sleep in hammocks with mosquito nets in the campsite of Nakum.

     Third day, back by horse to “El Sombrero” Ecolodge. Lunch and shuttle to the central area of Flores or Sta. Elena’s Airport or Melchor de Mencos border. (Tour code: eco3)


 TOPOXTÉ, YAXHÁ, NAKUM & TIKAL

     The Maya Biosphere Reserve, and the Tikal National Park are great places to see enormous biological diversity which distinguishes this area. We estimate getting into Tikal’s visitor center by 4 p.m.

     Transport to get you to the airport is included or to get you to Melchor de Mencos border.

 TOPOXTE, NAKUM, POZA MAYA & YAXHÁ*

     The tour begins with the shuttle from Sta. Elena’s International Airport to the Yaxhá Lagoon or Melchor de Mencos border. Duration: 1:30 hours, approximately.

     Room assignments in El Sombrero Ecolodge. Take a boat to the Island of Topoxté and visit to the archeological site. We will continue by boat to the Ixtinto River and by horse to the archeological site which bears the same name. Touring time: 5 hours approximately. Back to El Sombrero for dinner and lodging.

     Second day, after breakfast shuttle by jeep to the Nakum archeological site and Poza Maya, the visit will take the whole day. Back to El Sombrero for dinner and lodging.

     Third Day, shuttle and visit the Yaxhá archeological site, lunch in El Sombrero’s Restaurant and back to the central area of Flores or Sta. Elena’s Airport or Melchor de Mencos border.

 RIO AZUL & KINAL*

     Shuttle from Sta. Elena’s Airport or Melchor de Mencos border at 8:00 a.m. to the Ixcan river archeological camp.

     During the trip we will cross The Tikal National Park, The Dos Lagunas National Park, and The Rio Azul/Kinal National Park, all within the Maya Biosphere Reserve’s central northern areas.

     When we arrive we will set up camp and hammocks, have dinner and rest.

     Second Day: after breakfast, visit the Rio Azul archeological site. The distance from the main site camp is 4 km.

     Back for lunch to Ixcanrio’s Camp.

     In the afternoon, we will go to the archeological site of Kinal and visit.

     A total of 23 km will be covered. Back to Ixcanrio for dinner.

     Early in the morning the next day, after breakfast back to the central area of Flores and Sta. Elena’s Airport or Melchor de Mencos border. We may return very late so a night in a Flores hotel may be arranged for you for a supplementary fee, please ask your travel agent about different choices.
